Our Story
James "Papa" Wilmore. One of several children from the union between Allen Wilmore and Annie Johnson. "Papa"-- as he was referred to -- and his siblings grew up in a rural section of South Carolina. Fairfield County, South Carolina, is where he worked as a farmer, and his wife, Melvina Dixon, raised their family.
This family consisted of eight daughters: Eliza, Nora, Carrie Bell, Delia, Annie, Irene, Fannie, and Elizabeth. Four sons included Allen, John, George, and James Jr. Three relatives raised as children were David, Leroy, and David Lee.

Family members married and migrated to various locations for a better life and job opportunities. These locations include Baltimore, Maryland; New York; and South Carolina (Bowman, Great Falls, Rock Hill, and York).
